Artist's Statement

Much of my sculpture, although abstract, is landscape based. I grew up in western Canada where the Rocky Mountains hover on the horizon and the First Nation tribes produce colorful artwork. For many years I have lived in Saratoga Springs which lies in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Both these places, as well as many locations in my travels, have had a powerful influence on my work.

In the first part of my career, I was a painter. When sculpture became my focus, threedimensional forms and the natural color of materials interested me. Recently, painting and drawing have become integral to my work. Surfaces are often engraved and some are painted. A few large, free standing sculptures have a sound component.
